Looks like you have to pay a fee to list your items in the Xunlai Market, interesting.

But some of them looks like a part of some chinese characters. like the last character, (bottom right) could read mountain but the stroke in the center is broken, the first character, (top left) could be worm, then again the center stroke is broken, the character next to it top center, could be "to kill" but its missing a stroke on the top left side, top right, its pretty obvious a 1, I don't know could mean the worm has fail to kill the number one warrior on the mountain...

Well, that is actually one of the indicators I use to determine how close something is to actual release. The English text always shows up first, then they farm out the translations and those make it into the DAT file.
A quick look shows that the Xunlai Market stuff hasn't been translated yet, which makes sense because it would appear they are still working on the interface.
The file dumps I do also have all the other languages in it. I haven't spent the time to see if there was any language indicator flag to be able to filter that stuff out. It was low on my list of priorities really...
As far as file order etc -- the # field really has no bearing on anything at all except within the data structure. I think that folks were speculating that the FFNA files were for lookups of the files within the DAT file or something like that. Since they didn't appear to contain any game data people put it at a lower priority I think... Actually, if I remember correctly, I think someone had figured it out and released some source code for it. Maybe time for me to go look that stuff up...
In any case, I'll usually just do a file compare of the dumps to see what text has changed since the order of the files seems to remain consistent from the initial download. I have notice that doing a -image from a fresh install seems to keep the later files with a higher # field though...

Truly a Fascinating thread though, it's fun reading up on all this and seeing whats going on.. though it kinda feels a bit ''wrong'' in some sense - Y'know, we're spying. But still fun.

Very cool, thanks for looking that up. I was in .dat but never had come across that particular file. Very cool!
I'm excited to see what updates Anet has in store for us in the coming months.

Interesting thread, and I'm surprised that this was all done in the past couple days.
But I've got a question as to how deep this can go. I would think that by exploring the gwdat, you can only see what ANet has put into it, and so you can only see things that are currently part of the game or were going to be part of the game. Minus a few posts I've seen on things that may be implemented in the future, this doesn't really seem to be a true fortune teller of what we're going to get.
Does ANet purposefully add things to the gwdat over time before they release it in a big update? And how far does this really look into the future?

Yes, Anet does purposely stream updates before they are released. EoTN info was in there about a month before the sneak preview weekend. The Bonus Mission Pack was also streamed well in advance of release. Some stuff makes it to the game, some stuff doesn't. So I try and warn about things being pure speculation.
By comparing differences you can determine what stuff would appear to be in current development. Additionally, since translation typically occurs toward the end of the development cycle (since you want to have the interface set before translating it), you can guess when things might be appearing in-game soon (for example, the mini-missions are translated). In the case of both EoTN and the BMP, you could actually track how close you were to release by the number of different translations that were done

Nope, you can see things that they are thinking about also. Things they discuss over lunch, over a beer after work. The gw.dat file listens to them.

Oh boy, I think it is pretty clear from Gaile's message that the Xunlai Market will be ready as late 03/08 or early 04/08 - only two to three months left to wait :P

It's just north of Mehtani Keys. You can see it in this big map I've pieced together from all such pieces in the .dat: http://pics.livejournal.com/kyrasantae/pic/000258fb/g34
I found this panoramic view a while ago in the .dat - It's originally six different views, one in each layer. I've pasted them together into this view for your convenience.
